Plantar Wart Treatment in Atlanta, GA
Plantar warts are painful, stubborn, and — worse — contagious. Caused by a strain of the human papilloma virus, they dig into the bottom of the foot and hurt with every step. Store-bought removers rarely reach the depth these warts grow. At United Foot & Leg in Atlanta, we have several in-office treatment options, and most warts require only one treatment.
What is plantar wart (verruca)?
A plantar wart (verruca plantaris) is a viral growth in the skin of the sole of the foot. Because standing and walking push it inward, it grows into the tissue rather than outward, often forming a callus over it. The telltale sign is pinpoint black dots (tiny capillaries) within the lesion and pain when the sides of the wart are squeezed. Warts spread by direct contact and shared surfaces, and can multiply into a patch of satellite warts.
Common symptoms
- A rough, thickened, grainy growth on the sole of the foot
- Sharp pain with walking or standing, like stepping on a pebble
- Pain when the sides of the lesion are squeezed
- Tiny black pinpoint dots in the center of the lesion
- Interruption of the normal skin lines across the growth
- Multiple warts in a cluster as they spread
Common causes & risk factors
- Human papilloma virus (HPV) entering through small breaks in the skin
- Barefoot walking in locker rooms, pools, and shared showers
- Shared shoes, socks, or nail tools
- Moist, warm foot environment (sweaty feet, occlusive shoes)
- Small cuts, scrapes, or cracked heels that admit the virus
- Weakened immune response to the virus in some patients
When should you see a foot doctor?
- A growth on your foot is painful or changing
- Over-the-counter wart removers have not worked
- The wart is growing, bleeding, or multiplying
- You are not sure it is a wart — other lesions can look similar
- You have diabetes or poor circulation — never self-treat foot lesions
How we evaluate it
Dr. Morris examines the lesion and confirms it is a wart rather than a callus, corn, or more serious skin growth. Proper diagnosis matters: the treatments differ, and any changing or unusual skin lesion deserves a specialist's eye.
Treatment options at United Foot & Leg
In-office wart destruction
We offer several treatment approaches, and most plantar warts require only one treatment. The method is chosen based on the wart's size, depth, and location, and your comfort.
Debridement and paired therapies
Trimming the overlying callus exposes the wart tissue, and combination treatment often outperforms any single method on stubborn, deep, or long-standing warts.
Follow-up for resistant warts
Warts that resist the first treatment are re-treated with a different approach at follow-up — there is more than one tool for this problem.
Simple, transparent pricing

We accept cash, HSA, credit cards, Stripe, and Zelle. All bookings are non-refundable.
What to expect
Treatment is performed in the office in one visit in most cases. You will feel the treatment area for a short time afterward, and the treated tissue works its way out as the skin heals. We tell you what the treated site should look like as it heals.
Recovery & follow-up
Most patients return to normal shoes and activity quickly. The treated spot may be tender for a few days, and a protective pad may be applied. Warts can recur in the same environment that produced them — footwear and hygiene guidance is part of the visit.
